About Mastiffs:    This dog is like no other. It is large but not usually a bully. This dog does what it wants to do but thankfully, all they want to do is please you. If you love the dog and spend time with them they will eagerly do whatever you ask (as long as it doesn’t require a lot of energy, this dog is lazy). However, if you do not spend time with this formidable creature, no amount of force will make them obey.

English Mastiffs must be around people most of their waking day. They can be great house dogs and they love to go to work with you.

Mastiffs are unwaveringly loyal. There are many tales of English Mastiffs not allowing emergency workers to help their unconscious master. They are very protective. It is not unheard of for this breed to keep emergency workers at bay while their master suffers a heart attack or diabetic coma especially if there is no family member there to tell him/her to “sit”. English Mastiffs are very, very loyal.

They are great security systems. If your job requires you to be away from your family and your wife stays at home most of the day, this formidable creature will give you peace of mind. He/she will protect her, your kids and your property once he or she becomes part of the family. Other dogs are known to bite and can be a liability. English Mastiffs are different. They are so big they seldom need to exert any force. When they do use force, they are known to try and control the event by holding them rather than biting. They will bite if need be but their mere presence demands respect and they get it.

Most Mastiffs are Teddy Bears unless you are in danger and then they are fearless. However, kids (that they know) can climb on them all day long. Mastiffs love attention.

English Mastiffs need exercise everyday but their energy doesn’t last very long. Ten minutes of good play time and they are ready for a long nap.

Notice: The last thing you want to do is put them in a pen or on a chain all day. If there is even a remote possibility of this, DON’T GET AN ENGLISH MASTIFF!
