Tank
is my best friend.
He is a big beautiful fawn with a prominent black
mask. His bark makes the earth tremble. Male English Mastiffs have a bark
that is unparalleled. They are said to have the only bark that will scare an
entire pack of wolves away.
He
is huge; on his way to around 250 pounds. But he isn’t quite 2 years old
yet. Tank should fill out even more in the next few months. He possesses a
big boxy head and massive shoulders. It is evident that he is 100% muscle
but he is as kind as he can be. His kennel has a 6’ fence that he can stand
up and look over. I am 6’1” and he can put both paws on my shoulders and
look over my head. He is enormous.
One of Tank’s best friends is a small female black kitty named Sassy (less
than 3 pounds) which he truly loves. She runs to him for protection.
Tank looks forward to hanging out with me in the work shop. He knows he will
get plenty of attention and snacks. He has his own place to sit and after he
gives the space an initial inspection, he retreats to his spot and gets
comfortable.
Mastiffs like to chew a lot. This is something they do until they are about
2 years old. Then, after about two years old, they are over it. I think it
becomes too much like work. Until then, if they don’t have something to chew
on, they can be destructive. I regularly give Tank a small log (I get it off
the fire wood pile) and he loves to whittle it down whenever he gets
ambitious. Sassafras is his favorite. All the other dogs get jealous if they
don’t get one too which makes everyone happy and the cost is minimal. As
long as he has his “chew toys” he doesn’t bother anything else. He has logs
everywhere that he likes to play with (an unusual sight to some) but most of
the time Tank is terminally lazy.
